About our Christmas tree farm..

Growing Christmas trees on our fields in Lancashire has been part of the Giltrees family for more than four decades.

Over the years, we’ve developed a wealth of experience in growing trees and understanding what makes a great Christmas tree — from choosing the right varieties of seedlings to plant and then care for to producing the full, healthy shapes that families want in their homes.

Our trees take quite a while to grow (6ft trees take on average 8-10 years) to a saleable size, so every Christmas tree you see on our website represents years of planning, planting and care.

How We Grow Our Nordmann Firs

The Nordmann Fir is one of the UK’s most popular real Christmas trees, and for good reason.

It has a rich green foliage and excellent needle retention, making it a fantastic choice for the home.

But growing a quality Nordmann Fir takes time.

From planting young trees, we carefully manage their growth throughout the seasons. This includes a surprising amount of trimming and branch adjustment, controlling competing vegetation, monitoring the health of the trees and carrying out any other necessary maintenance to encourage strong, well-shaped trees. We don’t simply plant a tree and wait for it to grow, as much as we wish that was the case!

That’s why we take such pride in seeing our trees finally leave the field and become part of someone’s Christmas.

When Our Trees Are Cut

Timing is an important part of supplying a fresh Christmas tree.

We aim to harvest our trees as close to the Christmas period as possible, helping them arrive at your home fresh and ready for the festive season.

Each tree is inspected before it leaves the field. We’re looking for the right combination of shape, size, colour and overall quality.

Once selected, the tree is cut and prepared for its journey to you.
